Chocolate Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies (“Danger Cookies”)

July 4th, 2006 by Potato

Yield: 4 dozen; Oven temp: 375 F

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups flour [note: on recent batches, I’ve found that I’ve needed more flour than this to get the consistency right, nearly 3 cups]
    1/4 cup oatmeal
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon baking powder
2 sticks (1 cup) butter, softened
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1 cup packed brown sugar
    2 large eggs, beaten
    1 tablespoon vanilla
    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
    2 cups chocolate chips
    1/2 cup chopped pecans/almonds/walnuts (optional)

Method:

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

    2. In a bowl stir together flour, oatmeal, salt, and baking soda. In another large bowl stir together butter, both sugars, eggs, vanilla and cocoa.

    3. Gradually stir flour mixture into butter mixture and mix until combined. Stir chocolate chips and nuts, if using, and stir to distribute evenly.

    4. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto greased baking sheets and bake about 10 minutes. Cool on a baking rack.

Warning:

Be very careful in how these cookies are given to others! If you are not careful, they may cause the recipient to fall in love with you. You’ve been warned!
